La exposición BE-LA, Encuentros Pasados y Presentes, fue diseñada con motivo del lanzamiento de ENCUENTRO, y desea iluminar el fenómeno de la solidaridad entre América Latina y Bélgica, hoy y en el pasado. En este artículo los protagonistas de la exposición cuentan sus historias junto al material de sus archivos personales.
To celebrate the ENCUENTRO Kick-Off, the expo BE-LA PAST AND PRESENT ENCOUNTERS was created, exhibiting archival materials from AMSAB-ISG and KADOC-KU Leuven. In this article, the protagonists of the exposition tell the stories behind the objects from their personal archives. The exposition brings together the accounts of Alma De Walsche in Ecuador, Raf Allaerts in Guatemala, Luis (Ludovic) Vandaele in Brazil, and Isabelle Vertriest and Eric Van der Meirsch in Nicaragua.
Toon Mondelaers es un activista político belga. Enviado por los jesuitas a Chile a finales de 1964, Mondelaers se convierte en un testigo privilegiado de la situación política chilena durante los gobiernos de Eduardo Frei Montalva (1964-1970) y Salvador Allende (1970-1973) hasta octubre 1973, cuando es expulsado del país por los militares golpistas dirigidos por el General Augusto Pinochet. En su paso por Chile, Mondelaers se radicaliza ideológicamente y termina por asumir una participación en el Movimiento de Izquierda Revolucionario (MIR), así como en Cristianos por el Socialismo, una organización fundada en Santiago en 1971 inspirada en la Teología de la Liberación y que se hallaba en búsqueda de una síntesis entre marxismo y cristianismo.
